Rivaaz Movie Review

Story:

The basic plot is a tradition (rivaaz) that forces women in a particular village to fall into prostitution and she is pimped by none other than her own father and brothers. The top guns of the village including the Mukhiya (Alok Nath), the police (Yashpal Sharma); and well the Thakur (Sayaji Shinde) are all involved in this rivaaz. Infact, Thakur is the main buyer of these girls and buys them as soon as they turn 18 and are eligible to lose their virginity.

One such girl is Bela (Ritisha) whose father (Rajendra Gupta) is already under a contract of Rs. 1 lakh with Thakur to be drowned into the tradition. Rahul, who is from a nearby city falls in love with Bela and wants to get her out of this dirty business. What happens next is better left unsaid.

Analysis:

Couple of weeks back, ‘Khap’ released that too was based on age-old Indian traditions. These films have good subjects to play with but totally disappoint with poor scripting, direction and performances.

Performances:

Weak script leaves no scope for the actors to perform and the best would be by Vijay Raaz who plays a local pimp. Senior actors like Alok Nath, Deepti Naval and Reema are totally wasted in the film. The film has an item song by Sambhavna Seth which is just okay. The rest of the supporting cast including Meghna Naidu does not do any good.

Technicalities:

Direction, script, music, everything is poor. There is nothing that can be called as the saving grace of the film. The four songs added cause headache and nothing else.

Plus Points:

- Story
- Good Names

Minus Points:

- Performances
- Direction
- Technicalities

Final Word: Not worth your penny spent.
