Oosaravelli Movie Review

Story:
Tony (NTR) is a typical character who changes moods and colors as per the situation. He meets Niharika (Tamanna) in an awkward situation which leads to love. He falls in love with her and chases her day and night. He gets to know that she is already in love with someone, but chases her down till she falls in love with him. At this point the other side of him is revealed which gives us the answers for the unanswered. Actually he is on a mission to kill an entire mafia empire. Why does he do that? For whom does he work for? Watch the movie for answers.

Analysis:
Oosaravelli starts off on a high note with excellent intro scene of hero. The hero character is introduced in such a way that audience expects him to play mind games and wise tricks all the time. But the film turns out to be a love story after that hyped introduction. This part is dealt in an entertaining with NTR, Raghubabu, MS Narayana and Jayaprakash Reddy doing the honors of filling in fun moments. The real story will only start before interval and the interval scene has really come out well. The graph picks up suddenly and sets high expectations on the second half.

Second half will reveal about the hero’s mission and why he has been under disguise. This part mostly deals with the heroine and it may not be liked by hardcore NTR fans. He goes missing for more than ten minutes and the film considerably slows down. Movie takes a serious turn and comedy takes the backseat. Director tried to force comedy in bits and pieces in the second hour but it didn’t gel well.

Script wise, Oosaravelli is good barring few plot holes. But where it fails is with balancing NTR’s mass image with the hero’s characterization. Director had to sacrifice mind games and intelligent play for the sake of satisfying NTR fans, which didn’t help the film much. On a whole Oosaravelli can be watched once for its entertaining first half, interesting plot and performances of the lead star cast.

Commercially it may suffer because of going against NTR image. NTR city based fans and youth may be satisfied to see him in a new avatar, but his core audience from the B and C centers will have too many complaints with the film.

Performances:
It is good to see NTR switching genres. He did a completely different role in this movie which is more of a lover boy and less of an action hero. He also tried comedy and underplayed the emotions. It is refreshing to see him in this movie. He has to keep a check on the weight as he is gaining few kilos. His dances in Dandia India are good.

Tamanna got a very good role and she excelled in it. Generally heroines don’t get much scope in star heroes films. But this film is an exception and Tamanna lapped it up. She is gorgeous in few scenes.

Prakash Raj is routine. Jayaprakash and Raghubabu are funny. MS Narayana shared few laughs. Kick Shyam is brief and Rehaman is Okay. Sayaji Shinde’s role is half baked. Harika (Payal Ghosh) gives a neat performance.  

Technicalities:
Koratala Siva dialogues worked in places. On a whole lacked the necessary punch. Devi Sri Prasad’s background score is fabulous. Two songs are very good. Rasool camera is one of the highlights of the movie. Action part is dealt well. There are few action scenes but are shot in an exciting fashion. Production values are rich.

Surender Reddy did well as a director to handle the script well. However, he is off balance at times as he is ‘confused’ to stick with the content or to go with NTR’s mass image. He should have opted for a small hero instead of choosing a star for this script, which would have done wonders for him.

Final Word:
        Don’t expect a brand NTR film!

The much delayed and most awaited movie has finally arrived. It has broughtMahesh Babu along with Samantha under the direction of Srinu Vaitla. Let ustake a plunge into the details.

Story: 
Shankar Narayana (Prakash Raj) an honest man with ideals whodoes a lot for the poor. His good deeds find enemies (Kota, Supreeth, Sayaji). Shankar’s son Ajay(Mahesh Babu) grows up to be an honest and tough cop.

While the whole world thinks Shankar Narayanais dead, he is actually recovering in a hospital. Meanwhile, unaware of allthis flashback Ajay sets on a mission to hunt Nayak (Sonu Sood), a dreadedmafia don. In this process, he comes across Prashanti (Samantha) and falls inlove with her. Meanwhile, Shankar Narayana recovers but he is not supposed togo through any sort of stress.

For this, Ajay starts doing all sorts of thingsto keep him happy. The story takes a turn when Ajay discovers about the attackon his father and decides to take revenge. How does he do that? Whether he issuccessful or not forms the rest of the story. 

Performances:
Mahesh Babu gives a powerhouse performance. His versatility in acting andemoting of various expressions is impressive. As usual, he rocks with his styleand handsome looks. 

Samantha looks sweet. She manages to do justicein songs and the light romance track. However, she must reduce her dose ofmakeup and start focusing on adding few extra pounds, that will make her doublesexy.

Prakash Raj was matured as usual. Though hedoesn’t have intense scenes in it, he maintains a contained act and does hisbit as required.

Sonu Sood looks stylish as a villain but hischaracterization is not that powerful. This time, he was not able to create therequired impact. 

Nasser was natural, Brahmanandam was hilarious,M S Narayana was fantastic, Vennela Kishore brought few extra smiles and madehis presence felt, Sonia was alright, Subbaraju made his presence felt, Kota was effective,Sayaji Shinde was standard, Aditya Menon was apt, Tanikella Bharani waselegant, Supreeth was okay. Special mention must be made of Parvathi Melton.Her item song and her oozing sex appeal is a visual delight. The others didtheir bit as required and added value. Highlights:

Analysis:
The two names, Mahesh Babu and Srinu Vaitla, are enough toset high expectations for the film. But the best way to enjoy this film is togo with an open mind. As such, this is a typical Srinu Vaitla film and hisformula and pattern is the same from start to finish.

Subba Raju’s character resembles Jaya PrakashReddy in ‘Dhee’. Brahmanandam’s character resembles what he portrayed in‘Ready’.

Only difference is, the commercial elements arehigh and for a change he has shown villains as villains and not converted themto good beings.

As usual, Vaitla relied on his strengths iecomedy and dialogues. During the first half, things are quite erratic and it ishard to connect. Many were looking at their watches for the interval bang.During the interval many gave thumbs down reactions and somewhat negativevibes.

The much hyped Mahesh Babu’s MLA get up iswasted in the film. The purpose of raising curtain for a reality show by MaheshBabu is not at all convincing but boring. Taking the bigger risk of realityshow to keep father happy is like a cock and bull story. The entertainmentgraph falls down suddenly due to that. Audience gets disconnected to the filmat that moment for about 20 minutes. Although the purpose of that reality showis not convincing, the pattern in which it goes with other artistes brought thehumor.

But second half covered up the entire thing andno one looks at the watch anymore. There are few points which are worthmentioning here:

• When Dharmavarapu faxes a celebrity photo to the villains. All are shocked. You must watch the film to enjoy that.
• The scene between Sonu Sood and Prakash Raj. It is a straight lift from ‘Sarkar’ scene between Amitabh Bachchan and Zakir Hussain, but a weak imitation.
• Last twenty minutes comedy and the dialogues of Brahmi and M S Narayana

Overall, the film has the right ingredients toappeal the family audience and though most of it is expected, it is the paceand ability with which the audience is engaged and the entertainment value theyget.

At the box office, with no other film in sight and the hype created, the filmwill be invincible.

Akasame Haddu Movie Review

Story:

Narayana (Rajeev) is the son of a middle class man Radha Krishna (Bhanuchander). He is a merit student and comes first in class. He achieves good ranks in competitive exams. He joins Engineering and studies with the help of donation given by his college principal. He reaches final year and then comes Keerthi into his life. He falls madly in love with her but she rejects. Dejected Rajeev tries to commit suicide and he gets saved by Karthik (Navadeep). With the help of Karthik’s tips Narayana becomes close friend of Keerthi. But she can’t accept his love due to a strong reason. What is it is the key to this story.

Analysis:

This film gives a strong message to the youth who commits suicides for some reason. It educates them to see beyond the problem and get along with the life. Although the film is about a social message it doesn’t get preachy and stick to the basics. That is why it works most of the times.

However it is too predictable and we can guess what comes next. This film based on a sensitive issue and it has few sensible scenes to keep the audience engaged. But it lack commercial elements like comedy to keep them entertained. If you like to watch a film with good storyline, then this will certainly impress you.

Performances:

Navadeep is cool. His performance will be liked by one and all. Rajeev gives a decent performance. He has shown his skills as a dancer in this film. Heroine Panchi is just Okay. Bhanuchander, Tanikella Bharani and others did well in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Mantra Anand scores music to this film and it is passable. A better track list might have come good for this one. Dialogues are simple without any nonsense. Vishwa cinematography and Varma editing are neat. Director Ravi Kiran has clarity in what he is doing. He presented the film like an experienced director.

Final Word: Akasame Haddu is a decent attempt and you could give it a try.

Vachadu Gelichadu Movie Review

Story:

Jeeva (Jeeva) and Ramana (Nanda) are step brothers from different fathers. Ramana doesn’t like his brother and hates his family. He tries to kill his little brother and flees away from home to become a big don. Jeeva comes to Mumbai and falls in love with Anjana (Taapsee). At an instant, Ramana kills Anajana’s father accidentally. Anjana seeks revenge and asks Jeeva to get Ramana behind bars. As there is no evidence for the killing, Ramana has to voluntarily surrender to police.

Ramana disagrees to do that and Anjana leaves Jeeva and move away to some unknown place until she get to know that Ramana is arrested or killed. Later Ramana comes to know that Jeeva is his step brother and he completely ignores him. But Jeeva hunts him down and there comes an unexpected twist in the tale.

Analysis:

This is a romantic family drama laced with some action. Most part of the film goes at a snail pace and bores you to death. The scenes look stupid and out of place at times. But that is deliberately done by the director and that will be known once the twist is revealed. The final twist answers many logical errors too.

The final twist really good but our audience may compare it to the twist in Darling movie. So, the only plus point of the film doesn’t really ‘shock’ our audience. May be Tamil audience might respond to it in a better way.

The film is technically sound and the performances are alright. Script is very weak that it would be a big test to sit through the film till climax. Music and cinematography are good though.

Performances:

Jeeva is good as the protagonist. His character needs to be underplayed and he does well in doing so. Taapsee looks sweet as Anjana but has to improve her acting skills. Nandha is good in a serious role. Santhanam’s comedy lacked the kick and Rehman is good in a small role.

Technicalities:

Thaman’s music is cool. Background score is very good. Anjana Anjana and Andala Bala songs will stay with you. Muttaiah’s cinematography is an asset to the film. Cinematography arrests you right away from the start. Editing by Vijayan is fine.

Kannan is a good technician but needs to sharpen his skills as a script writer. Although he has made deliberate errors as per the script requirement, he could have made this a breezy entertainer. All the comedy scenes are gone wasted. Romantic scenes lacked the soul (deliberate, may be).

Final Word: Vachadu Odaadu is an apt title for this film from audience point of view.

Gambler Telugu Movie Review

Story:

Vinayak Mahadev (Ajith Kumar) is a bad cop, who gets suspended from the duties for six months. He is in love with Sanjana (Trisha), daughter of a big betting mafia leader. Vinayak plans to steal her father’s and other mafia leaders money which is Rs. 500 crore worth. Meanwhile, a group of youngsters too plan to steal that money.

Vinayak comes to know about their plan and he joins them and sketches out a master plan. They execute the plan and steal all the money, but unexpected series of things follows which will change their lives forever.

Analysis:

First of all we have to appreciate Venkat Prabhu for breaking the jinx that a superstar’s milestone movie should be formulaic. This film is different from many run of the mill movies we see week after week. The characters are extremely different. There is no ‘good men’ business in this.

Every character has an agenda and is crooked including the hero. Basic plot is good and the characters are etched well, but the film lacked a racy screenplay. Heist films should be made at a breathtaking pace and shouldn’t give time for the audience to think.

Gambler doesn’t follow that key rule and opens and runs at a very leisurely pace that we could fall asleep at some or the other point. It gets interesting only towards the interval point and the second half runs better with few twists and turns. Director tried to make up for the flaws in the first hour in this hour and succeeds to some extent.

Climax twist is good (even though it is a straight lift from Bollywood hit Race) and works well. Gambler has its moments but it doesn’t have the power to hold on at the Telugu box office. In Tamil, Ajith’s star power is helping it to rake in huge collections.

Performances:

Ajith is simply superb as the bad man. His character is ultra grey that we could call it as the main villain in this film. No wonder, Ajith fans are going berserk in our neighboring state for this film. He rocked.

Arjun is good within his limitations. Vaibhav did well and Premji infused some humor into this rather serious plot. All the female characters didn’t have much to do. Trisha is alright. Lakshmi Rai is hot. Andrea and Anjali hardly have any screen time. Rest of the star cast did their bit.

Technicalities:

Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is just Okay. None of the songs will be remembered. Third song on Trisha and Ajith was picturized well. Background score is good though. Cinematography is fine and the editing is Okay. The film looked stylish in most of the scenes. Apart from stylish presentation, director Venkat Prabhu will not score any points for his direction. Especially his lethargic script is a downer. It’s high time for this talented filmmaker to make slick action movies rather prolonging them unnecessarily for hours together.

Final Word: This Gambler is just for Ajith fans.

Naaku O Lover Undi Movie Review

Story:

Krishna Sasthry (Krishnudu) is a Brahmin guy who leads his life as per the wish of his orthodox father. Krishna wants to lead life like a common youth who wears modern dresses and all. There enters Neelima (Rithika) into Krishna’s life. He goes for a makeover to impress her but realizes that she is in love with an unknown person who saved her from big danger. That person is none other than Krishna but he hesitates to tell that to her as he doesn’t want her love out of gratitude.

Analysis:

N.O.L.U is a routine fare which doesn’t have a hint of variety or freshness in it. Director tried to pull out a successful comedy using Krishnudu’s big frame. He didn’t have a solid script on hands. First half of the film is passable but the second half is a complete let down. There are so many noted artists in the film but none leaves a mark.

Performances:

Krishnudu failed as an actor again. He is not improving his acting skills even after starring in so many films. Rithika doesn’t impress. Her performance is very bad. MS Narayana excelled here and there. Ali and Venu Madhav are wasted. Producer Suresh Babu himself played the villain role. Rest of the star cast did what they are asked to do.

Technicalities:

Raghava’s script is pretty weak. He tried to recreate few successful comedy scenes in this film which didn’t click. Most of the times the writing reminds you of TV serials. Radhakrishna’s music is on the negative side too. Sad to see a music director who looked promising at the start of his career. Camera and editing are good for a low budget film. Director Ram Venky did well to get the right star cast but failed to choose a proper script to succeed.

Final Word: Wait for the home edition of Naaku O Lover Undi. No need to rush to the theatres.

1947 A Love Story Movie Review

Story:
Malli (Arya) is a poor washer man under the rule of British in India in 1945. Amy Wilkinson (Amy Jackson) comes to live with her father who is the Governer. She and Malli fall in love but the couple get separated with India winning the freedom from British. Amy comes back in search of Malli after sixty years to India. She recollects all those sweet and sour memories from the past which forms this story.

Analysis:

This film’s premise is strikingly similar to Titanic. An old woman recollecting her love story is straight out of Titanic. Also there are resemblances to Bollywood hit Lagaan. Although the film is set in pre independence period, the director avoided to touch the struggle for freedom etc.

He has narrated a fictional love story that happened during that time. Boy and girl getting separated due to ‘independence’ is the plot of the film. 1947 starts on a promising note and the first half is really cool with stunning visuals. But the film lacked the bite in the second hour where the pace dropped down drastically and the film kept on dragging like there is no end.

There is no emotional factor for Telugu audience to relate with this Madarasi love story as the independence struggle is not shown at all.

Performances:

Arya is sincere in his role. He is very good in romantic scenes and tickled the audiences in few humorous situations. Amy Jackson is gorgeous. Anyone will instantly like her for her beautiful looks. She performed well too. Nasser, Cochin Haneefa, Balasingh, M S Baskar, Balaji, Kishore and all others did their bit for the film.

Technicalities:

Art director Selva Kumar has erected the beautiful sets of 1940's Madras. He has in fact recreated the old Madras. His work is the highlight of the film. Nirav Shah’s cinematography is another asset. GV Prakash Kumar’s music too scores brownie points. Production values are rich.

Director Vijay’s attempt can be lauded. He tried to narrate something different love story amidst the candy floss romantic tales. On the flip side, he should have worked on the emotional quotient in the film. Second hour lacked necessary grip to get the audience attention.

Final Word: 1947 A Love Story can be watched if you are interested to know how Chennai looked in pre independence days!

Keratam Movie Review

Story:

Siddharth (Siddharth Raj Kumar) is a middle class student who leads his life in a jolly way. He doesn’t care about the future and doesn’t have dreams about tomorrow. He and Geetha (Aishwarya) fall in love and she sacrifices her medicine seat to study along with him.

Geetha’s parents comes to know about their love and her father will be left hurt by knowing that his daughter gave her ambition away for the sake of studying with Siddharth. Geetha understands her father pain and leaves Siddharth for studying medicine. After this Siddharth ignores his studies and stops going to college. He falls in love with Sangeetha (Rakul Preeth Singh), but she rejects him as he is not well educated.

Everyone around him settles down in life but Siddharth remains good for nothing and then he realizes his mistakes.

Analysis:

This film gives a strong message to youth to study well and don’t give up education for the sake of enjoyment. This point is touched many a director but is still evergreen as there are students who don’t realize the responsibility even in this super fast system.

Hero’s realization forms the climax of this film. Therefore the hero is seen in joshful mood until the penultimate scenes. Despite having a promising premise at hands, the director didn’t make good use of it. Screenplay is loose and the scenes are too flat. There is no single scene that arrests the attention of audience.

Performances:
Siddharth did well in his very first film. He has loads of confidence and can challenge his competitors if given a good script. He also needs the push from his family for the audience to recognize him. If you want us to give single reason to watch this film, we will say watch it for this youngster who is brimming with confidence.

Rakul Preeth Singh gets very less screen time. Aishwarya is Okay. She resembled Madhavi Latha of Nachavule fame. Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao excelled in his role. Venu Madhav’s comedy is routine yet entertaining. Rest of the cast is apt.

Technicalities:

Joshua Sridhar’s music is fine with two good songs. Background score is neat. Cinematography and Editing are among the positives of this film. This film is technically good and director Gowtham Patnaik has proved that he has command on all the crafts. He got the best out of his technical team. But the script which was borrowed from a Kannada film has let him down.

Final Word: This wave is weak!

Money Money more Money Movie Review

Story:

Chakri (JD), Raghu (Brahmaji), Gogi (Kevin Dev) and Abbas (Mukul Dev) are four unemployed persons that plot a kidnap to earn quick bucks. They kidnap Maggie (Tara Alisha) and put her in Khan Dada (Brahmanandam) house. Khan has lost all the power as he lost all his assets due to recession. As Maggie’s father is not available to settle the ransom, the kidnappers have to wait for sometime. To keep their identities intact they kidnap every person that knocks at Khan Dada’s doors. Do they succeed in making money or not is the remaining story.

Analysis:

Although JD called it as Money 3, it is nowhere connected to first two parts of Money, except for naming two principle characters as Khan Dada and Chakri. This is instead a remake of Hindi film ‘Dharwaja Bandh Rakho’ which was directed by JD. DBR was inspired from a Korean comedy ‘Attack the Gas Station’.

DBR was a flop in Hindi, but JD felt that there is scope to remake it and sell it off as a part of Money franchise. His idea succeeded to some extent as this film has drawn decent opening. However, it is nowhere near to the evergreen comedy hit Money.

Money Money more Money is a badly made film with no proper screenplay and no good comedic scenes. JD simply remade his Darwaja Bandh Rakho film in Telugu despite its failure in Hindi. He didn’t make any changes to make it a hit. It is an insult to Khan Dada’s character as this film made a mockery of that legendary role which played big part in making Brahmi as the king of comedy.

Performances:

Brahmanandam is wasted in this film. He tried his best to shoulder the film but the cheaply written character didn’t help him at all. JD is usual. Brahmaji is good. Tara Alisha is a pain to watch. She doesn’t know the basics of acting. Gajala looked aged. Venu Madhav is routine. Nagababu, Rajeev Kanakala, Jeeva and others played their parts well.

Technicalities:

Marudhuri Raja dialogues are flat. Except a joke here and there nothing clicked. He failed to recreate the magic that was done in Money. Chakri’s music is a big let down. Money 3 is a lackluster film on the technical front too.

JD Chakravarthy is a decent actor and he should stick to what he is good at. He doesn’t have the mettle to prove himself as a successful director. All of his films to date were either remakes or copy stuff. He can’t create a new character on his own. He can’t do justice to the already legendary characters too. It is high time that he stops directing films.

Final Word: Money 3 is an insult to Money franchise

Daggaraga Dooramga Movie Review

Story:

Gowtham (Sumanth) is an ad filmmaker creates an ‘imaginary model’ for one of his ad films. That model happens to be Meenakshi (Vedika), whose engagement gets canceled due to Gowtham’s sleazy ads. Meenakshi comes to Hyderabad from Vizag to take action on that ad agency.

She contacts her close friend Zareen (Sindu Tolani), who is an investigative journalist to take action against them. Zareen is on a dangerous mission at that time as she wants to expose the facts about a dreadful terrorist attack. Zareen hands over a DVD which contains all the details about the terrorist attack to Meenakshi before she gets killed by them.

Now terrorists are after Meenakshi for that DVD and she will be accompanied by Gowtham, who comes to rescue her. Meenakshi and Gowtham have to run away from the terrorists and also stop the planned terror attack. How do they succeed in doing so forms the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Our filmmakers never get tired of making films about terrorist attacks. We have seen many a film till now on the same lines and Daggaraga Dooramga is moreover very ‘Daggaraga’ to most of those mediocre thrillers.

The concept of the film is very silly and lacks logic. There are too many loopholes to ignore. Director lacks vision and clarity over the concept he has taken up. First half is okay to some extent with irrelevant comedy scenes. Second hour should have been gripping and serious to keep the audiences on the edge of their seats.

The screenplay is very loose and lacks the necessary thrills to make this a winner.

Performances:

Sumanth is Okay in his role which doesn’t really test him at any level. Vedika is good looking and can act. Brahmanandam is fine and the only saving grace of this film, especially in the second hour. Raghu Babu, Rajesh, Krishna Bhagavan tried their best to make the audience laugh. There is nothing significant from the remaining star cast.

Technicalities:

Music by Raghu Kunche is ordinary. Not a single song remains with you. Cinematography is fine for a small budget film. Editing is Okay. Daggaraga Dooramga is made on a shoestring budget and that should keep the producer in safe zone.

Ravi Kumar Chavali, who made a far better film Samanyudu failed to reach at least half of it with DD. There are many scenes which would raise doubts about his capabilities as a director.

Final Word: Stay as close as to your homes and as far as from this movie theatres!

Urumi Movie Review

Story:

The film starts with a short introduction to the history of Portuguese exploration in the in the Age of Discovery to India, referring the legendary landing of explorer Vasco da Gama on 20 May 1498 in Calicut, the kingdom ruled by Zamorins of Calicut. Da Gama starts criminal deeds for the sake of perfumes in Kerala. He kills a Kotwal (Arya) in this process and his son Kelu (Prithviraj) takes oath to kill Da Gama.

He makes a sword named Urumi with the gold collected from the people who got killed by Da gama. Kelu is taken by Vavvali (Prabu Deva) and he grows up there. Kelu meets Arakkal Princess (Genelia) in the process of bringing Da Gama’s son. He uses him as a trap to catch Da gama but the plan gets haywire. How Kelu finally kills Da Gama is the rest of the story.

Analysis:

Urumi worked in Malayalam because the film is made with the historical facts that happened in Kerala. This film has nothing to offer for Telugu audience. Even the screenplay and narration have the docu feel and the proceedings are pretty slow.

Most of the film looks like it is a historical explanation, which won’t suit the tastes of Telugu audience. The film lacks thrilling narration or nail biting action to keep them glued to the screen. This film is technically brilliant but lacks the arresting narration. The attempt can be lauded but Urumi can’t be a hit at Tollywood box office.

Performances:

Prithvi Raj’s performance is top notch. Genelia has done one of the memorable characters in her career. She worked hard for this role and it can be seen. Prabhu Deva gave a jovial performance and is a treat to watch. Jagathi is special. Tabu, Arya and Vidya Balan played guest roles.

Technicalities:

Story writer Shankar Ramakrishnan did good research and wrote this film with all the historical facts. Art department did a splendid work to recreate the 15th century look. Cinematography by Santosh Shivan is terrific. He has done a great job and deserves many awards for this work. Srikar Prasad’s editing is good. Deepak Dev’s background score played a vital role in keeping the mood of the film alive.

Mugguru Movie Review

Story:

Pavan (Navadeep), Maruti (Rahul) and Anji (Srinivas Avasarala) are three friends, who don’t have good educational or financial background. They hope to settle big in life by doing anything. They plan to kidnap JP (Ahuti Prasad), but in turn help him out of danger.

JP gets impressed by them and offers them jobs in his Malaysian company and also promises to get them married to his three daughters (Shradha Das, Sanjana and Sowmya). These three goes to Malaysia and impresses JP’s daughter and when things seems a cake walk for them in comes ‘trouble’ in the form of Bala Tripura Sundari (Reema Sen).

Analysis:

Mugguru is a desperate attempt to make an enjoyable comedy. The director tried his best to make audience laugh right from the start. Unfortunately none of the scenes or tricks carried the ‘punch’ and ‘power’ to make audiences smile. Almost every scene fell flat or annoyed audience, who might laugh at the director’s helplessness.

First half is completely dedicated to establish the plot and few foolish tricks of the three lead men to trap their three girls. Although the interval twist did raise some expectations, the reason given for it right after the interval looked cheap and unfunny. That flashback part was dragged and dragged to eat out enough time to get into the climax.

Climax depends completely on Brahmanandam who makes desperate attempt to make this film look like a comedy, but he too fails due to the very bad writing and unimaginative direction.

Performances:

Navadeep is good and is the standout performer among the three heroes. Rahul is weak in every department and hardly an actor material. Avasarala Srinivas didn’t have scope to exhibit his skills.

Shradha Das looked hot, Sanjana is mildly hot and Sowmya is anything but hot. All the three didn’t have much screen time except for dancing in a couple of songs and showing off their curves in few titillating scenes.

Reema Sen didn’t look as bad as in this film in the past. Shivaji did an extended guest role which doesn’t make any impact. Brahmanandam did his best to save this film from being a disaster and Ali’s comedy hardly works. Ahuti Prasad and others are just there to fill in few characters.

Technicalities:

Music by Koti is as loud as the comedy in this film. Background score is bad. Cinematography and editing reminds you of masala films that were made in the late eighties. V.N. Aditya once again fails as a director. His attempt at comedy proves a fact that he can’t handle comedy.

Final Word: It will be hard to find at least “Mugguru” who will say ‘three’ good things about this film.

Box office verdict: Making on a shoestring budget is the only plus point for this film to survive at the box office.

Kandireega Movie Review

Story:

Seenu (Ram), who didn't even complete his graduation comes to city with an aim to complete degree. But he falls for Shruti (Hansika) at the first sight and comes to know that she is facing problem with a thug Bhavani (Sonu Sood), who wants to marry her against her wish. Seenu confronts Bhavani and a challenge from Bhavani gives an opportunity for Seenu to win Shruti's love. One Seenu gets over Bhavani, he falls into a bigger problem called Rajanna (Jaya Prakash Reddy). Rajanna's daughter Sandhya (Aksha) loves Seenu at first sight and asks her father to get her married to him. Now, Seenu has to use his brains to get out of this problem as he knows that sheer muscle power isn't enough to get over Rajanna.

Analysis:

Kandireega is a routine fare in which the protagonist can beat hundreds of goons at will. When a problem arises where he can't just flex his muscles, the protagonist falls on mind games and tricks to fool the villains. This is the success formula that was used in many films like Dhee, Ready and to some extent in Brindavanam too.

The first half races ahead with not much story. Director filled the film with good comedy and entertaining elements to keep the audience interested. However, the film goes overboard towards the interval, where the hero does fight after fight to prove his strength to both villain and heroine. Things gets settled when the hero starts to use his brain. Few characters in the film take absolute U turn in this hour and makes this a laugh riot.

Even though the scenes and characters that we see on screen are familiar, we won't complaint as the movie entertains to the maximum. Director did well to keep the audience focused with few screenplay tricks and made the better use of most of the star cast to inject comedy. There are times where the director tries too much to make it a comedy caper but it is covered by the performances.

If this film has a better audio and better looking heroines it would have worked out better. Compromise on few things may affect its prospects. Nevertheless Kandireega works due to the funny moments and ample entertainment.

Performances:

Ram is energetic as usual but gives a feeling that e\he is talking and doing so much for his frame and age. Director should have toned down action part and massy dialogues to make this character more believable. Hansika is on the heavier side and looked elder to Ram in few scenes. She is not at all pleasing in few scenes. Aksha did well with the Telangana accent but she too suffers bad looks in this movie.

Sonu Sood character has two shades in this film. He is brilliant and perhaps the hero of this film. In some frames he looked handsome and fierce than Ram. Jaya Prakash Reddy is good in a routine role. Raghu Babu is okay. Brahmanandam rocked in one scene. Rest of the star cast did well within limitations.

Tehnicalities:

Dialogues are good in comedic scenes but could've been better in the conversations between Ram and Sonu Sood. Music by Thaman is not up to the mark. Except Champakamala... none of the songs have repeat value. Andrew's cinematography is fine and so is the editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. He should have trimmed it as it lasted for almost 2 hour 45 minutes. Production values are okay.

Debutante Santosh Srinivas did well to make his debut count. He can handle commercial entertainers with panache. He also has a good sense of screenplay which comes handy in long run.

Final Word: This Kandireega's sting is sweet and fun!

Dhada Movie Review

Story:

Vishwa (Naga Chaitanya) and Rajeev (Sriram) are brothers who love each other very much. Vishwa who is an adventurous guy falls for a multi millionaire's daughter Rhea (Kajal). Rhea's father (Mukesh Rushi) fixes her marriage with a billionaire. Meanwhile, Vishwa saves a girl from a gang of thugs which in turn affects the multi crore business of human trafficking run by RD (Rahuil Dev) and Kelly (Kelly Dorjee). RD starts to hunt for Vishwa and then the movie ends on an expected noted after the director throws in few twists and turns.

Analysis:

Dhada has the style, grandeur, capable star cast and excellent technical crew, but what it lacks is a solid script. The plot itself is a very familiar and uninteresting one. Even the screenplay isn't engaging at all. Right from the word go, the movie tests the audience patience and turns torturous with each passing minute. Director has gone for all style little substance kind of film, which doesn't appeal to any section of audience.

The richness in the film and the exotic visuals are the only saving grace. Even the characters are under developed and due to that an able star cast gone wasted. The film drags and drags on in the second hour that few audiences in the auditorium lost patience and started booing. The last half an hour is extremely unbearable as the director tried his level best to make things interesting. Dialogue writer's inefficiency added to the woes.

Music is not bad and not good either. None of the songs were picturized well too. Awful makeup of Kajal didn't help the proceedings. On a whole, Dhada is a pretty badly made film with crores of money spent by the producer on absolutely nothing.

Performances:

Naga Chaitanya tried to prove himself as a good mass hero. But he needs to wait for some more time to look old enough to take up such roles. His diction is so bad in few scenes in alright at times. He can't pronounce few Telugu words perfectly and that is not a welcome sign for a Telugu hero. He worked a bit on his dances and fights. He is just okay with them.

Kajal's role looked like as if it was written after Titanic heroine's role. She did fine as a damsel in distress. But the makeup and styling of her not at all good. She looked awkward with that barbie doll kind of hairstyle.

Rahul Dev's character is not properly etched. Kelly Dorjee is typecast yet again. Sriram looked weak and uninterested throughout the film. Sameeksha switched to character roles with this film. Brahmanandam did everything possible to make the audience laugh but hardly succeeded. Ali too is wasted and so are the comedians who did few cameo appearances.

Tehnicalities:

Dialogues by Abburi Ravi didn't have the necessary zing. His work ranged from ordinary to hopeless in this film.
Music by Devi Sri Prasad is standard. None of the songs have the repeat value. Background score is not so great. Cinematography is slick and probably the best of the technical departments. Editing is not up to the mark. Production values are rich.

Director Ajay Bhuyan can make a film stylishly and that is what the impression you get on him after watching Dhada. He needs to work on various departments to call himself a director.

Final Word: Dhada for audience and also the buyers!

Box office predictions: It should open good due to lack of watchable Telugu films in the recent past. But the film didn't have a single plus to survive at the box office. Lot will depend on tomorrow's release Kandireega.
