Bol Movie Review

Story:

The film starts with ‘Zainab’ (Humaima) who is slated to be hanged for killing her own father. Her petition to president is shunned as and hence with no option left she decides to reveal her story to the whole world through media as her last wish.

Her story starts with the character sketch of her father Hakeem Sahib based in old Lahore who fathered 14 kids; of them seven daughters and a son Saifi, who is not really a son but a homosexual. He bars his daughters from enjoying any novelties of modern life, even education.

Their neighbor ‘Mustafa’ (Atif Aslam) is in love with Hakim’s one of the daughters Ayesha (Mahira Khan), plays a hero in their life to help Saif get out of the four walls of his home and get a job. He even gets married to Ayesha without her father’s consent.

Saif there gets molested and raped at his workplace, on discovering the father kills him much to his family members shock. In order to escape the father gets involved in an extra martial affair with Meena played by Iman Ali who is a prostitute. Meena delivers Hakeem’s child which is gain a girl against his wish of giving a baby boy. But however he doesn’t wants her daughter to be brought up in a flesh market.

When Meena takes the girl child to Hakeem’s place his secret unfolds. The brothel owner played by Shafqat Cheema follows Meena to Hakeem’s place in order to get the baby girl and in order to save the child from prostitution he tries to kill the baby. And in order to save the baby Zainab kills her father and hence gets arrested to be hanged for her crime. Eventually after her story ends and the intruding media tries to save her life in the name of humanity but gets hanged to death, leaving the world with a thought.

Performances:

Performances by Atif Aslam and Humaima Malick are truly appreciative and so is the performance by Manzar Sehbai. If not for the less publicity and average songs the film could have garnered much needed word of mouth pre-release. But with positive reviews pouring in, the film is sure to catch on the rage.

Technicalities:

Direction, Screenplay and Story by Shoaib Mansoor are edgy and engaging. He has done a commendable job in handling the social-thought provocation film. Music in the film disappoints as having names like Atif Aslam, the songs of the film were expected to be chartbusters however they end on a mediocre note. The film had an engaging story and an equally engaging screenplay that keeps you on the edge of the seat throughout the film.

Plus Points: Atif Aslam, Humaima Malick, story

Minus Points: It’s a little Depressing

Final Word: Watch it for a wonderful message
