Engeyum Eppothum Movie Review

Story

It is about two lover couples, their desire to get united in life. But what happens if a tragic incident plays spoilsport in their lives. A road accident involving two buses at a National Highway in Villupuram occurs. Meanwhile, a flashback unfolds and the romance between Goutham (Sharwanand) and Amudha (Ananya) and  Kadhiresan (Jai) and  Manimegalai (Anjali) is narrated.

A soft-spoken good-hearted Kadhiresan falls for a young nurse Manimegalai, who is opposite to his nature. She is out-spoken and practical in life. Amudha gets attracted to Goutham, who helps her in Chennai when is stranded in a bus stand unable to know where to go when she lands from Tiruchy for an interview.
Kadhiresan and Manimekalai take a bus to go to go to their hometown, while Goutham also boards the same to see Amudha and open his heart.
At the same time, Amudha takes the bus in the opposite to come and meet Goutham. What the buses collide is what the film is all about.

Performance

It is a tailor-made role for Sharwanand. The suave and stylish looks come handy for his character. Equally impressive as a chirpy innocent girl is Ananya. She continues from where she left in Nadodigal. Anjali as an out-spoken girl, who takes every step in her life with caution is equally impressive. She seems to be enjoying the good run in the industry, doing varied roles so early in her career. The real scene-stealer is Jai. As innocent young man in love with Anjali, he is impressive. He brings out the innocence in his character very well.
There are a host of new faces in the film who bring freshness to the script.

Technicalities

If debutant filmmaker Saravanan is the captain of the ship, he has been ably supported by cinematographer velraj. He captures the contrasting lives in Chennai and rural areas well. The mishap scenes and thereafter are well shot by him. Equally supportive is Sathya with his musical score. Not just the songs, but also the background score adds pep to the whole proceedings. Kishore's editing is crisp and it makes the whole fare racy and riveting.

Analysis

All the characters are well-written. The narration keeps one engaged all through. One gets a feeling of travelling in the bus as the film progresses. The film is a mix of feel-good moments and at the same time emotional moments. Three cheers to Saravanan for making a crisp talked that is racy and riveting and at the same time carrying a strong message.

Verdict : 3.5 / 5

Vandhan Vendran Movie Review

Story:

Arjun (Jiiva) comes to Mumbai with a mission. That to get close to Ramana (Nandha), a suave don in Mumbai. He gets acquainted with him and also narrates his love tale with Anjali (Tapasee) to him.

It is revealed that Anjali's businessman father is killed in a shoot-out and Ramana is the reason behind it. Anjali now tells Arjun that she would marry him only he convinces Ramana to surrender to police. There is twist as events unfold. Check out the rest on big screen.

Performance:

Jiiva is brilliant as angry Arjun. As professional boxer, he plays his role with ease. His onscreen chemistry with Tapasee is cute. He is brilliant in romantic sequences and so in action scenes with nandha. Tapasee is cool and vibrant. She gets to do a meaty role and does it with aplomb. As usual as panipoori wallah in Mumbai, Santhanam tickles the funny bone with his one-liners. The scene-stealer is Nandha. He does it well. A romantic youth I earlier films, he gets to play a baddie on screen.

Analysis:

The movie is half romance and half action. With Jiiva's screen presence, it lives up to expectations. However there seems to be something missing on the whole. The script and narration lacks adequate pace. It is a cross between romance and action. Kannan had woven a god story but missed to replicate charm of Jeyamkondan at many places.

Technicalities:

It is a technically a rich film. All is well in it. The camera capturing lushly locations by P G Muthiah for songs and pay stunt sequences are the hallmark. Thaman's songs especially Kanchana Mala... and Anjana Anjana are foot-tapping.

Verdict- 2.5/5

Mankatha Movie Review

Story
Mankatha is a racy and adrenaline-rushing story of a Maharshatra police officer Vinayak Mahadevan (Ajith)  who is suspended for helping a smuggler to escape from police encounter. He starts leading life in his own way. He falls for Sanjana (Trisha), daughter of an influential local goon Arumuga Chettiyar (Jayaprakash) in Mumbai. A tough cop Prithvi (Arjun) takes charge to end betting scandal in IPL cricket in Mumbai. Arumuga uses his links with dons in Mumbai tries to route through his old theatre , a cash of over Rs 500 crore to be used in betting.

Sumanth (Vaibhav), a goon working for Arumuga Chettiyarplans to take away the booty with the help of his friends Ganesh (Ashwin), Mahanth (Mahanth), who owns a bar in Mumbai and Prem (Premji), a IIT graduate. Vinayak joins the race. he promises to help them and divide it between them. Trouble starts after they take away the acsh. Both Arumugha Chettiyar and police are now on their heels. Meanwhile, Mahanth and Prem escape with the cash. It all upto Vinayak now. The battle shifts between him and Prithvi.

Performance
Its Ajith all the way. He is simply amazing in the role of a dreaded baddie. With his usual looks sans makeup, he hogs all limelight. His one-liners brings laughter.  Arjun does the role of a cop once more. But he is charming here. Trisha and Lakshmi Rai does play their part well.  Andrea as Arjun's wife and Anjali in the role of Vaibhav's wife do minuscule roles.Vaibhav gets a meaty role and he utilise the opportunity.  Premji did what he did in Goa and Chennai 28.

Technicalities

It is technically well-made. Sakthi Saravanan's lens captures the stunts well. It forms the backbone of the movie. Yuvan Shankar's tunes add variety to it. His open song Mankatha...is celebrated in theatres. Director Venkat Prabhu seems to have done his part well.  He has laced thrills, spills and humour in right mix.

Analysis
Mankatha is boyish film. It is all racy and rivetting. The first half is light and simple. The game really begins in latter part. With Venkat Prabhu and Ajith giving their best, Mankatha rocks all time.

Puli Vesham Movie Review

Story
The movie revolves around RK, who plays a negative role. That of a youth who does anything for money. He is a paid killer. Then there is Karthik, a police officer. Interestingly in a twist in the tale, Karthik';s close friend is bumped off by a goon on a mistaken identity. He wants to bump off Karthik and wrongly murders his friend. There is a twist in the form of Sada and the encounter that brings Karthik and RK in straight line. What happens in the drama then forms the rest

Performance

RK is at his best playing a ruffian who does anything for money. An anti-hero with a heart he is impressive. P Vasu has made the script according to RK's strength and weakness. Sadha is dazzling in her comeback and she is good. Karthik is bubblky and at his best donning a role that sticks to our heart instantly A whole set of artistes form part of the movie.

Technicalities
The strength of the movie is P Vasu's racy script and unpredictable nature of each character. Each character has a bearing on the story. The highlight is the way RK and Sadha's character have been shaped up. Watch out for an intriguing interval and the pacy second half. Srikanth Deva's music reminds one of Ilayaraja of his heydays. It is sweet and peppy.

Analysis

A thriller that has enough twists and turns, Puli Vesham is a interesting tale that makes it an engrossing watch. However had P Vasu concentrated more on the script the end product could have been more interesting. There are enough suspense elements that is interesting.

Mark: 3/5.

Kathir's father Sevaka Pandian (Sampathraj) is a influential man in Usulampatti village. He has rich pride about his  caste and hates love. Kathir doesnt want himself to be identified with his village and wants
himself to be identified as city-bred. His only desire is to go and settle down in USA. He meets Nisha (Rima Kaleengal) who wants to go abroad. The latter loses her passport and Kathir helps her find it. Slowly Kathir falls for her. Meanwhile Sevaka Pandian arranges for his
son's wedding with a High Court judge's daughter.

Meanwhile Kathir and Nisha get their visa and get ready to leave together to USA. The former escapes from his marriage and when he wants to propose to Nisha, he gets a rude shock. She informs him that she is going to USA for her marriage. A twist in the tale happens.Kathir's father takes away his son to usilampatti while he fears that both Nisha and Kathir are in love and kidnaps the girl. Both could not go to USA. Coming to know the truth, Kathir speaks against his father and rescues Nisha. With her wedding cancelled , Nisha leaves to
Seychelles. So does Kathir. There Kathir goes hammer and tongs to convince Nisha. Did he suceed in winning her heart and return to Usilampatti to convince his dad forms the crux.

Performance
It's Bharath at his usual. Stylish and trendy, he plays suave IT boy with elegance and ease. He dances well and emotes equally good.Rima Kaleengal may not be exactly a ravishing beauty, but plays her part well. She suits the character well. She reminds one of Navya Nair in
many places. Santhanam walks way with applause with his witty one-liners. His humour helps us to be engrossed. Five Star fame Krishna plays a cameo. Watch out for Sampathraj. He is at his best in a role that is tailor-made for him. He gives right emotions. At his ease before the camera, Sampath is the scene-stealer.

Technicalities
The backbone of the movie is S Ramakrishnan. His story and dialogues liven up the proceedings.Cinematography by Kovi Jagatheeswaran deserves a special mention., he captures the beauty of Seychelles well. Art by Ilayaraj is goood while Vishnudeva's choreography is apt.
Vijay Anthony's music is the highlight. He has come up with a mix of peppy and melodious numbers. Producer Baiju has been generous in shaping up the movie.

Analysis
A youthful entertainer that is loaded with romance. Movies on love themes always attract youngsters. However the sequences are cliched and beaten-to-bush in many films and locations alone seems to be new.

Mudhal Idam Movie Review

Story

Yema Kunji (Vidharth) is a happy go-lucky-youngster in a village in Tamilnadu. He lives his life in his own way. The whole story revolves around him. He has a unique ambition in his life - to become the sought-after name in the most wanted list in the local police station. There is one Lythila (Kavitha Nair), daughter of a conductor. Yema falls in love with him. There are two local politicians (played by Nadodigal Thirumurugan and Pughazh). The hero plays spoilsport in their ambition to become MLA. There begins all trouble. There is Kishore who plays a pivotal role setting things in order. Both brainy and Brawny, our  hero sets all things right and restores order wining the hands of his beloved.

Performance

Viddharth excels in the role. His nose for humor is evident. He leaves an impression playing a callous youth. Be it romance ear his actions inviting trouble, he is right there giving his best. His role is more like the one Vimal played in Kalavani. Watch out for Mall beauty Kavitha Nair. Homely yet glamorous, she is right there playing her part well. It is a dignified portrayal by Kishore. He lends solidity to the script with his act. The movie boasts of a huge star cast. Keerthi Chawla appears for a song shaking her legs.

Technicalities

It is a movie that is entertaining. Humor always sells. Knowing this well, debutant Kumaran has woven a script that is crisp and humors. All is predictable yet enthralling. The comedy is the USP of the film. However there are shades of Kalaivani in the movie. P Sellathurai has cranked the camera. He has captured the rustic beauty of the village well. D Imman's music is apt to the theme. A melody is soul-stirring. V T Vijayan's editing goes hand -in-hand with the story.

Analysis

On the whole, the movie is quite like Kalavani with twists and turns. But with loads of humour and apt characterizations, the movie makes you sit and watch. Produced by AVM Productions, the movie is a jolly-fun ride.

Final verdict: With humour as its under-current, the movie throws light on rustic lives loaded with innocence well.

Rowthiram movie review

Story
The movie revolves around Shiva (Jiva), an upright, honest and an angry man. His grandfather (Prakashraj) teaches him Kalari and creates in him an urge to fight evil elements in the society. Unfortunately Shiva's actions are not endorsed by his family especially his father (Jayaprakash). Priya (Shriya) is law graduate who bumps off Shiva. There is romance too Meanwhile, a brawl between Siva and a badie Gowry spells trouble in the former's life. There is enough twists and turn and the bloody battle begins.

Performance
Jiiva who played a bubbly photo journalist in Kho plays a contrasting role in Rowthiram. He is an angry young man. He brings anger, agony in his eyes. A real mass theme and Jiiva gets under the skin of the character and performs well.

Shriya is gorgeous and cute. She is the apt choice for the role. Shriya has a meaty role to play besides running around trees romancing. Jayaprakash plays a Jiiva's dad in the flick. Prakashraj as Jiiva's grandfather is amazing. The veteran gives right emotions to leave his impression.

Be it Ganesh Acharya, the Bollywood choreographer, or Babu Anthony all have a part to play in the film. Interestingly a peppy number danced to glory by Ganesh Acharya.

Technicalities
Written and directed by debutant Gokul, the film doesn't look like a first-timer's work. The screenplay is swift and there are twists and turns. Wonder at the grip Gokul has over the medium. Prakash Niki's music is foot-tapping. Equally impressive are his re-recording. Three cheers for N Shanmugasundaram's cinematography. The movie shot in soft lens is soothing and pleasant to our eyes.

Analysis
The movie lives up to its  title. It is fast and furious. There are no dull moments in the movie. The twists are interesting and stunts sequences are a real treat for action-lovers. Anger and agony of an individual over the system is brought out well. Gokul steals the show with his narration. Man of the match he deserves.

Verdict
Rowthiram is an action-packed film  that is sure to go well with Jiiva's fans for they can see him in a larger-than-life role.

His board of  directors give him a final chance of six months of setting things right or wind up the business. Thamizh joins his hotel as general manager. It spells trouble in Rishvanth's life.Tamilzzh stps in and plans big and saves Rishvanth's life and also helps him overcome his debts and at the same time teach a lesson to Jagan. How is what the second half is all about.

Performance
Vaseegaran, who was introduced by Bharathiraja, plays a key role making a comeback. He is measured in his expressions and looks tailor-made for suave and rich businessman. Meghna, the look alike of Nayanthara, plays a bubbly young girl in the movie. Her on-screen chemistry with Snehan is good. Watchout for a decent but a menacing performance by  Jayaprakash, while Akshaya plays a cameo. The real scene-stealer is Snehan. The lyricist-turned actor who started with Yogi, has given his best try. He has enough scope to utilise the opportunity. He romances, fights, evokes laughter too.He sports a funkly hairdo in the film.

Technicalities
Premnath adopts a shrewd narration. He ensures the scenes unfold fast. Shankar's cinematography capturing Malaysia is good, while Radhakarishnan has come out with some lengthy dialogues. Editing is by KK. Mani Sharma has come up with some loud soings. Power Pandian and Raviverma have choreographed stunt sequences that Snehan executes well.

Analysis
It is more a cat and mouse game. Thamizh is shown as a brainy and a brawny man, who emerges triumphant in any tough situation. The movie has some interesting twists and turns. The characters are inter-linked and provides a sense of thrill for audience. Premanth has ensured that the movie has no dull moments. However there are some logical lapses in the film that may take away some interest. Also the abrupt ending of Meghna's character, who is shown as a gritty girl in the film doesn't serve any purpose.

Technicalities
The movie is well made thanks to C R Maravarman's good cinematography. The songs are shot rich and grand. Abhishek-Lawrence duo gives some peppy numbers and a couple of songs sung by Vijaya T Rajendher and Silambarasan are good.Dileep Subbarayan's stunts are interesting.

Analysis

The movie is about two rustic youth Kollaivanan (R Sivam ) and Kolaivannan (Umar) who fight to hold the hands of a girl Parijatham (Harini). Coming to know that Kodaivannan is noble hearted, Ramesh goes out to help him. But the twist in the tale is Ramesh falls for the girl.Who wins the match and who holds Harini's hands finally forms the climax. But all told in a hilarious way.

Performance
It is a movie that is different from the rest. There is innocence all over it. All the characters are new and everyone has perfromed to their potential. Ramesh is the best. He has proved his best in cricket and now before the camera he is simply amazing. He is cool and casual and at ease. Three cheers to him. Comedy and romance both come naturally to him. Harini as the bubbly girl is adequate while R Sivam and Avatar Ganesh rocks the screen with their body language and
one-liners.

Technicalities
The movie belongs to director YUvaraj. He hold control over the proceedings. Nowehere the movie goes sombre. He has mixed humour all through. The dialogues are hilarious, penned by Yuvaraj himself. Watch out for the camera work by Gopi Amarnath. He captures the cricket match well. The beauty of the village and the temple festival are shot well. Arul Dev's music adds strength. Raja Muhamad's editing is crisp. There no needless emotional scenes to make you go low.

Analysis
It is a whiff of fresh air. All is told in a lighter vein. The movie gives Ramesh a great chance to prove his acting skills. As coach he is right there making a mark. Combining comedy in cricket and the way the villagers play the game have been captured well. The movie stands up thanks to the humour all through. Three cheers to Yuvaraj. He with his racy script and quick sequence of events ensures, all is well.

Box Odfice verdit
Cricket and comedy go hand-in-hand. Both loved by all. Obviously with good publicity, the movie should click

Meanwhile a twist in the tale happens and Sabarish takes up a battle for a cause and he is pitted against Sri Harri. What happens then is the tale.

Perfromance
Sabarish is fit, fin and a hunk. He fight excellent. He has enough scope in his maiden venture to romance and try his hand at action. He is impressive considering this to be his first venture. Pinky, the young girl is adequate. Santhanam impresses in his one-liners as usual. Bala Singh is there to perform. The scene-stealer is Sri Hari playing a pivotal role. Be it emotion of anger, he is right there performing to his potential.

Technicalities
Three cheers to Fefsi Vijayan for etching out a script that suits his son. He has ensured that all potentials of his son are well displayed in the first venture. Action has been given prime importance and Sabarish lives up to all expectations of his father. There are a couple of hummable songs, while camera work is impressive expecially cathing the coastal areas of Orissa well.

Analysis
It is a hard-hiting film with enough twists in the tale. It begins on a soft note and gathers momentum as it progresses. Post interval, there are enough surprises for the audience that Will glue them to their seats. wabarish flexing his muscles to fight for a cause has been portrayed well. Karungali movie review

Story

The story begins with Ravi (Kalanjiyam), a cruel drug peddler saves the life of Kanimozhi, a doctor (Sunitha Verma) injured in an accident. Kanimozhi  decides to marry her saviour.

Knowing about Ravi's bad past that he was a drug seller and had killed his won lover, Kanimozhi goes behind him. Ravi tells Kanimozhi that he is now a changed man. Both get married. Coming to know from Kanimozhi about Amudhanila (by Anjali), who is desperate to have a child, Ravi decides to play dirty tricks with her. .

Amudhanila is married to Gunasekharan (played by Srinivas) and both are madly in love. Their only problem is that they don’t have a child. Ravi tries to exploit her situation and force her to take to the bed with him. ‘ Does Ravi exploit Amudhanila? Does the doctor and Amudhanila’s husband find out about Ravi?

Analysis
Kalanjiyam has taken a sensitive theme but handled it in a crude and a cheap way. It is more like a soft porno. Many a dialogues are crude and scenes too including the one at mortuary. Sadly the film ends up burdening the hearts of few in the society. Childless couples are shown in a bad light.

Technicalities
There is nothing much to write. The songs by Srikanth deva alone stands out. Otherwise the theme takes away all the attention. The movie is a taxing affair. It makes you go low at many places.

Performance
Anjali, Sunitha Verma, Srinivas and Asmitha seem to have done a good job in the film. Especially Anjali has given a matured performance as a perplexed girl. Srinivas as her young hubby is sure to go places. Kalanjiyam, as the lead role is inadequate.

Box office verdict
A heavy subject has been handled in an insensitive way, making the film come across as a cheap, sex thriller.

Bodinayakanur Ganesan movie review

Story
Ganesan (Harikumar) and his friend Gilaki (Soori) sells arrack and ganja in Bodi and work for a thug Thiruvachi (Sai ravi). As it happens, they go to jail often. Ganesan has a mentally-challenged brother who is in a home. He comes across a nurse Sarawathi (Arundhathi), who cares and shares for others. He falls for her. But she urged Ganesan to become good and earn his livelihood and then come to her. Twist in the tale is Thiruvachi, the bad man in the town decides to marry Saraswathi. Now its Ganesan versus Thiruvachi. There is a flashback that reveals that the two had some issues to be settled. Who emerges the winner is the climax.

Performance

Harikumar comntinues from where he left in Madurai Sambhavam. He speaks loud but good in stunt and dance sequences. Arundhathi does her part well. She has a good part to play in the script. Sai Ravi, the villain speaks from his stomach, while Soori comes all through the film. Many new faces are used ion the film by director Gnanam.

Technicalities

It is a movie that is less in technics but more in action and emotions. Unlike a city-based theme, it is set mostly in villages. Prabhakatr had captured the agricultural lands, the temple festivals, dance and stunts and chases well. Thyagu's sets are good. Ananl Arasu excels in stunt sequences. John Peter's music reminds songs of yesteryear Ilayaraja.  Gnanam, who has directed the film seems to have made it an commercial cocktail that we have grown seeing in 1980s. More conviction in the script would have helped his cause.

Analysis

It is a old wine in a new bottle. We have seen many such stories in Tamil cinema for ages. But Gnanam has made it racy. The songs are good and with ensemble of good artistes, the movie may count. But a sense of deja vu prevails as we watch the film. However Gnanam has made a sincere attempt to give a clean entertainer.

Box office verdict
The movie with commercial elements in right mix may do well at B and C centres.

Veppam movie review

Story

The story begins in a Chennai slum where two young boys are left lonely after their mother's death. Their drunkard father Jothi (Shimmore) leaves the house. Brought up by a noble heart, the brothers grow big in a respectable way. The elder brother Balaji (Muthukumar) takes a lot of care on his sibling Karthik (Nani). Karthik spends all his time with his friend Vishnu (Karthi) who is also brought up in the locality. There is Revathy (Nithya Menon), who loves Karthik deperately. Meanwhile Jothi ends up becoming a pimp in the area and starts to work for drug peddler Ammaji (Jennifer).

Knowing that Karthik is in love with Viji (Bindhu Madhavi) one of the girls in his business, Jothi decides to explot him. He gives him an assignment - to  ransport drugs to POndy. Karthick joins him. Coming to know that it was a plan to bump him off by Jothi, Vishnu returns to Chennai. On a the same night when he gets killed and the blame falls on his friend Karthick. The onus is now on Balaji to prove that his brother is innocent. The brothers now join hands with  ifferent plans.

Analysis:

It is a movie set in the backdrop of Chennai slum. It reminds one of movies like Pattiyal and Drohi a lot. Anjana has given her hard wolrk and the result is there to be seen in parts. The script is racy and the first half with some breezy moments passes off quickly. The twists and surprising turns in the story are enjoyable.

Technicalities:

It has a very sleek cinematography by Om Prakash. He has penned a poetry through his camera. The songs by Joshua Sridhar stands out. All the seven songs including Veppam, the theme song, is worth a listen.Anthony's crispy editing adds pace to the script.

Performance
:

Three cheers to Muthukumar. He gives controlled emotion and with Goutham Menon dubbing for him, he sets the screen on screen on fire. Nani plays his part well while Karthi is breezy and entertaining.

Bindhu Madhavai has a limited scope while Nithya Menon hogs limelight with her character.

Box office verdict: A technically-rich movie, Veppam will be here to stay for some time.

Kanchana Tamil movie review

Story:
Raghava (raghava Lawrence) is a youth who is afraid of everything and anything around him. He is so scared of things that he would not venture out of the house after 6 pm. Raghava prefers to sleep next to his mother (Kovai Sarala). He gets all courage sleeping next to her.But Raghava prefers to spend all his time playing cricket. As things unfold, few unnatural things happen. His cricket kits gets blood stained and more bewildering events unfolds in his house. Meanwhile, Raghava starts to behave like a girl and starts aggressive. He goes the otherway around. Afraid of his acts, his family seeks the help of dargah. Meanwhile, there is an interesting romance between Raghava and Priya (Lakshmi Rai). How he becomes very normal and gets everything back is the climax. Lawrence has loaded a message there.

Performance:

Lawrence does what he did in Muni. In comedy sequences, he has excelled well. As usual he is at his best in dance sequences. Lawrence's expressions when he turns a woman is worth mentioning. But at places, he does overacts. Lakshmi Rai is glamorous. She is the oomph factor in the film. She is good at dance sequences too matching Lawrence by step-by-step. Kovai Sarala is back after a gap in Tamil cinema. She is good as Lawrence's mother. Three cheers to Sarath Kumar. The macho-man throws a surprise in Kanchana. Yes, he plays a transgender in a cameo. Though it is a brief role, it has an impact in the film. He deserves all praise for the guts to do such a character.

Technicalities:

It's a whole and whole Lawrence film. The story, screenplay and direction by are Lawrence Raghavendra. It has its moments. The script is racy. But at many places very predictable. The pace stutters at few places. The scary moments may be enjoyed by the kids. Interestingly, the music by S Thaman is good. It adds pep to the script. The re-recording unfortunately is average, leaving ni impact on the proceedings. A scarry movies deserves more.

Analysis:

It is an interesting movie for its different from regular themes. It has humour as its under current. But how far it scares us is the USP. It has few commercial elements in it to appease masses. Watch out for Lawrence, he gives everything for the song.

Box Office verdict:

It is a movie that should have been released during summer vaccation, for it may attract children. But a scary movie told in style. Hope it strikes rich.
